Scholar Spotlight: Adassa-Astero Metropoulos
The Madonna Scholarship has lightened my family’s financial obligation and has given me the motivation to achieve academic excellence.
Our scholar spotlight is on Adassa-Astero Metropoulos from Notre Dame High School for Girls. Adassa is involved in extracurricular activities in school and outside of school, including piano, cooking club, and dance. Being of Greek decent, keeping their culture and tradition alive is important to Adassa’s family.
Adassa has been Greek dancing since she could walk, and joined Orpheus Hellenic Folklore Society in 2007. Earlier this year, her group Orpheus Nea Genia (New Generation) went to Orlando, Florida to participate in the Hellenic Dance Festival. Adassa’s group placed second in the competition and received a music award. They are already preparing for next year’s competition.
“Dreams should never be considered impossible. With the ambition I have to pursue my dreams, I hope I have inspired future Madonna scholars to do the same,” Adassa wrote. Her dream is to attend college at Le Cordon Bleu to study Culinary Arts.
